Bible story
Last night I was reading the girls their bible story. There are questions at the end, so I always tell Ginny to pay attention. It's not the first time we've read through this bible (they have two that we alternate between) and I remember what some of the questions are. When I'm sure I know that the part I'm reading is a question, I slow down and say it loudly and clearly for Ginny's benefit. Sometimes I even ask her right then and there the question. It's not that she wouldn't know the answer if she paid attention, she's just usually off in her own little world. We are near the beginning of the bible right now (still on creation) and I asked Ginny what God made one the day I just read. The appropriate answer would have been Adam and Eve, but she looked at the picture and said, "Trees." Yes, in case you hadn't guessed, her answer usually consists of whatever picture is on that page. So we got to the end, and the question was 'What did God make Eve from?' Ginny responded, "A pumpkin." Oh so close. Then the last question was one where I told them there was no right or wrong answer. The question simply asked what is your favourite thing that God made. Ginny made up some gibberish word and proceeded to laugh hysterically. When she calmed down, I asked Jorja and she said, "Diamonds, jewels, anything glittery." Apparently she already knows what is supposed to be her best friend. Later.

Snoop and Dennis
As of late, we have come up with little nicknames or terms of endearment for our two eldest daughters. Ginny is Dennis and Jorja is Snoop.
Ginny is Dennis as in Dennis the Menace. She does not seem happy unless she is into something. She just can't seem to keep her hands from touching anything and everything. She's not a huge fan of the name. "Dennis, stop touching that!" "I'm not Dennis!" This exchange goes on for a while until we get her to stop doing whatever she was doing. Then it happens again the next day.
Jorja is Snoop because I'm not sure I have ever seen a nosier person. She can't stand to not know what is going on. Julie and I can not have any kind of conversation without her listening in and asking about it. At the rate she is learning these days, we won't be able to spell things out to each other very much longer either. She however, has come to take great pride in this new name. Julie and I will be talking about something, thinking we're being rather quiet and nondescript when Jorja will come and ask a question that she only could have asked if she knew what we were talking about. "You're not supposed to be listening to this Snoop." "But I like to, I snooped it out." That has become one of her favorite sayings lately, "I snooped it out." She also likes to turn things around once in a while too. A couple of days ago, she was muttering something under her breath as I was leaving the room. No one else was there, so I assumed she was talking to me. Guess again. She said to me, "I wasn't talking to you, I was talking to God.......Snoop!" Touche. Later.

Close, but not quite
This evening before bed, I was reading the girls their bible story. It was the one about a widow giving her offering of two small coins and Jesus saying that this was a greater gift than the rich people giving a lot. In the children's' bible we have, there are some questions after each story. One question was 'what did you learn from this story?' In an effort to relate it to their lives I used the analogy that they had lots of toys. I said what if you gave away a box full of toys and someone else who only had two toys gave them away. Jorja quickly replied, "They would have to buy more toys." Hmm...missed it by that much. Later

GGGGOOOOOAAAAALLLLLL!!!!!!!
No, I'm not watching the World Cup, just the Parkridge Parakeets, and Jorja scored today. It was kind of a fluke, but she was in there enough to get it, not off somewhere looking at dandelions, so that was good. She was so proud of herself (and so was I) that she turned around and came running toward me waving and grinning from ear to ear.
Jorja, Ginny and I went for a bike ride today, Jorja on hers and Ginny and me on mine. We went twice around the crescent today - a new distance record. It was in the late afternoon, and Ginny was actually starting to fall asleep in the seat on the back of my bike. Jorja, who has named her bike Jasmine, decided today that the bike should have a middle name 'Speedy.' Because that's appropriate. We were on the back side of the crescent, and when they paved it, they took three swaths sown the street, so there's a visible line a little wider than where the parked cars are. I told Jorja that we just had to stay on the right hand side of that line, and we would be all right. She replied, "That line there that God made on the road." Yeah, that's the one. Later.

Shots
Today, CeCe had to have her first set of immunizations - one shot in each leg. I've always hated that part, but I'm the shot guy. I've taken both girls for all theirs so far, and it works better that way. Anyway, she did pretty good, and now weighs 11 lbs 9 oz.
After the shots, CeCe and I came home, and it wasn't quite time to get Jorja from preschool yet, so Julie, Ginny, CeCe and I went to M&M to pick up some kabobs to BBQ for supper. On the way home, we stopped at the Coop and Julie picked the girls up a can of orange pop to share, and some 5 cent candies. Then we picked Jorja up and went home and they had a 'picnic' with their treats in the back yard. It could have been a five star restaurant the way they thought this was so special. Except for Ginny trying to talk with gummy candy sticking her teeth together - that was pretty funny.
They took their shoes off after their picnic and were playing in the yard. Ginny was colouring with sidewalk chalk when she saw a spider. Jorja came running by with very determined look on her face. "I've just got to get my shoe so I can kill this spider. I've got to smack it in the head." Ahh, the mighty hunter strikes again.
We went for a bike ride after supper, Jorja on her's, and I had Ginny in the seat on the back of mine. As we were biking Jorja asked, "Does God love us all the time? Even when we do bad things?" I assured her He did, and asked if there was something she wanted to tell me. "No, just wondering." Hmmmm...
I got a blister on my finger yesterday working in the yard, and it popped and ripped off before I was done. This evening Jorja grabbed in and I said ouch. Then I showed it to her. She got this really serious, concerned look an her face. "What is that Dad. Will the skin come back." I assured her it would and she wanted to know if it hurt. A little I said. "You shouldn't let anyone touch that Dad, not even you. You shouls use your other hand for stuff." I think it was quite unsettling to her, kind of cute.
Well, here's hoping there's some sleep tonight.
