My two year old fashion critic

This morning I decided to wear a sweater with a shirt underneath it to church.  I thought it looked pretty good, if I do say so myself.  I left the shirt untucked so that it was sticking out the bottom of the sweater the way the young people are doing it nowadays.  Every once in a while I like to pretend that I'm still hip.  Anyway, I came downstairs to get the girls' coats on and Ginny looked at me and said, "Why do you have two shirts on?"  I asked her if she liked it.  She said, "No, it's kind of weird."  Do you hear that?  That's the wind whistling out of my deflating ego.  At least Jorja tried to reassure me that I was still handsome, and CeCe was still undecided.  Julie liked it and that's all that really matters.

We've been trying to get CeCe to say Mama recently.  She knows how - she has said the words, but getting her to say it when Julie wants her to is another story.  I think she's just being coy and playing with us.  The other day at supper, Julie was trying to get CeCe to say Mama.  She was repeating it over and over and then Ginny decided to join in.  "Ma-ma...Ma-ma"  Nice slow, distinct syllables.  Then Ginny decides that this was enough of this.  She said, "CeCe, can you say Virginia June?"  Yeah, like that is going to roll off her tongue.

We have been in the teething phase in our household for about five years now.  We have now begun the de-teething phase.  Jorja lost her first tooth this past week.  It had been loose for a while, and she let Julie wiggle it long enough to actually pull it out.  She was pretty excited.  Ginny was kind of freaked out by the whole thing.  She kept walking around saying her teeth were still all 'tight'.  Jorja wrote a note and got all ready for the tooth fairy.  She asked for a tooth brush.  Seems like a logical thing for the tooth fairy to bring, and she did.  She was quite tickled to find her new tooth brush in the morning.

Proudly showing off her missing tooth.
This morning Jorja asked me if I went to Kindergarten when I was little.  I replied that yes I did.  She then said, "Because they didn't have Kindergarten a long time ago."  Glad to know she already thinks of me as old.  Later.

First tooth

I know it's a few days late, but I finally got the pictures off the camera, so here is a shot of our thanksgiving spread. Notice the ketchup bottle in the corner that I forgot to get out of the shot. Oh well, just in case I thought we were too classy, that brings me back to reality.

Here is a shot of CeCe and her first tooth (you have to look pretty close and you'll see a little bit of white on her gums.) I like the triumphant fist pump, as if to say 'that's right, I've got a chomper now!'

We had our first of many school picture days this week. I'm curious to see if Jorja 'posed' as much for a strange photographer as she does here whenever there is a camera out. The head gets cocked to the side, hair flings over the shoulder, the pose it struck all right.

I've got pretty much exactly three weeks left until I go back to work.  I have to admit that it is getting me down.  I'm trying to enjoy the rest of the time that I do have instead of looking ahead and worrying about going back to work and all that that will bring.  It's a lot easier said than done, but today was a better day.  Later.

Catwalk

Saturday morning, Julie and the two older girls went to a princess party.  It was being put on by a local church.  They got all dressed up and had a blast.  They got their nails done, there was a fashion show where each girl got to do their little turn on the catwalk.  *I'm too sexy for for my cat, too sexy for my cat, what you think about that...on the catwalk, I shake my little tush on the catwalk*  Sorry about that, I was having a bad '90's flashback courtesy of the 'Right said Fred' song.  Anyway, they even asked the girls questions so they could read the answers out while they were walking.  'Here we have Jorja whose favourite food is grapes...and here is Ginny, whose favourite food in cheese buns.'  Yes, our girls have very high class tastes.

On Monday, after we dropped Jorja off at school, the rest of us went to Julie's office to drop something off.  Apparently Ginny took this opportunity to step out from her big sister's shadow and shine.  She talked and talked and talked.  She's still on her Kiersten kick too.  Someone asked her how she was doing and called her by her name.  She said, "Actually, sometimes I like to call myself Kiersten."

CeCe is  growing and changing every day it seems.  She loves to roll around on the floor, and sometimes it looks like she wants to crawl.  Heaven help us.  Her little tooth is growing and is almost visible when she smiles now.  Last night, she slept through the whole night - from 7 to 7.  She usually has a  bottle  around midnight, but not last night.  It was awesome.  Now if only the other two would sleep past 6:30.  Later.

Teething

I know the teething hasn't even really started yet (nothing is through anyway), but when will it end? CeCe has not slept worth a hoot in days. Yes I said hoot. I think I spent half the night in the rocker-recliner with her last night. I feel refreshed.

On the positive side though, CeCe has been rolling around like crazy as of late and sits up pretty well by herself too. When she's not miserable with her teeth, she is a really happy baby. She eats 'solids' great but usually has to go straight to the tub when she is done.

It was warm enough yesterday to turn the sprinklers on for the girls. We've had two days of +30 weather here. Unfortunately, it has been cold for so long that the pool never got over 19. Too cold for me.

We have been doing a bit of a clean/purge in the house as of late and selling a bunch of stuff on kijiji. It is amazing what people will buy and how fast they respond to an ad. Yesterday we had quite a few people coming, so Julie stayed in the house while I took the girls for a bike ride. Jorja rode her own bike, and I hitched up the chariot to put CeCe into behind my bike. I didn't feel like supervising a tricycle ride with CeCe along. So by the time I had everything hooked up, I figured we should at least go around the block twice. The first time Jorja said we were having a race. By the second lap, she was yelling, "It's not a race!" Fickle little thing. At one point, I was riding beside her coasting when she looked over. She then started to coast as well. I asked her what she was doing and she just said she was riding like me. Needless to say, it was more about the fresh air and being out of the house than exercise for me. Later.

Check-ups

I don't want to sound like a stuck record, but today was another sleep-deprived days. Last night's culprit - CeCe. Two nights ago was amazing. She had her normal bottle around 7 pm and then slept until morning. I was thinking, hey, maybe she's going to cut out her midnight feed and go straight through now. That would be awesome. Not so. Last night she woke up at 1 am, so I fed her then. Then she was up at around 4. This time she had pooped. Who poops in the middle of the night, really? She has got to get that schedule changed. Anyway, after changing her, she wouldn't settle. She didn't even want her soother. Her teeth are getting really close to coming in now, and she has been kind of miserable. Anyway, I think it just hurts too much to suck sometimes. So I gave her some Oragel, and that really ticked her off. She was screaming for quite a while. It's a miracle the whole house wasn't up by this time. Eventually I did get her back to sleep, but I was exhausted in the morning.

CeCe had her six-month doctor check-up today, and other than the previous paragraph, all is well. She's is 18.5 lbs and 26.5 inches long. When does it switch from long to tall? Are you long until you can stand, and then you are tall? Just some food for thought.

Julie and I were cleaning up the other night, and I put our wii games out on the shelf with our movies instead of leaving them hidden away. Jorja and Ginny sure picked up on this in a hurry - they don't miss much. So yesterday I let them play Mariocart. That had to have been the world's longest race. Eventually Jorja did finish, but it was painful to watch. Her whole body moved as she steered and she kept getting closer and closer to the TV until she was right there. Of course Ginny had to follow her, but she didn't really get how things worked. Today I let them play some guitar hero. That was interesting to say the least.

Tomorrow is haircut day before going back to school. That should be good for lots of posing, posturing and preening. Jorja is going for her 5 year check-up at the doctor too. I can't believe how much she's grown in last year. We have marks on the wall in the kitchen, and she grew a whole 4 inches from her fourth birthday. Crazy. Well, I guess I should attempt to scale the mountain of laundry. Later.

No Got It!

This morning, Ginny was done breakfast before Jorja. CeCe was squeaking, so I wiped Ginny up, took her out of her booster seat and let her loose. I went upstairs to get CeCe and left Jorja to finish her breakfast. I was gone for a few minutes, and when I returned I witnessed Ginny standing on my chair next to Jorja, and she had the lid off of the 4 litre milk jug. Two minutes I was gone. She is going to cause me to lose what hair I have left a lot quicker. Anyway, I go down there, get her to sit down on the chair and give her a stern warning about standing on chairs and taking the lid off of the milk. "Don't do it again. Got it?" I say. She looks at me, sticks out her lip, crosses her arms over her chest, turns away and says, "No Got it!" Excuse me? She's two. We are so in trouble. A tearful, tantrum-filled battle of wills ensued, and eventually she apologized. It was a good start to the day.

Why is it that not all kids can have a good night's sleep on the same night? We finally have Jorja pretty much down to one bathroom break per night. Ginny seems to wake up quite a bit, and come into our room as soon as she does. However, last night she was good. Neither her nor Jorja were up at all after we went to bed. Then there was CeCe. She just would not stay settled. Today too, she was just miserable. She has been super drooly for a while now, so we kind of thought maybe we were getting into teething. But you couldn't feel anything in there. Finally at supper time tonight, I but some baby oragel on her gums. Within minutes she was a totally different baby. I guess at least now we know. Ginny is barely over getting her two-year molars, and here we go again.

We just finished watching the season finale of Glee. What an awesome show. I think they are definitely good for Journey's career. There's a whole new generation being introduced to 'Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin' - does it get any better than that. Well, 'Don't stop believing' was better, but that's a given. Later.
